Salman Khan must thank Faraaz Khan not Prosenjit for Maine Pyar Kiya - Times of India
In a recent interview Bengal's foremost star-actor Prosenjit Chatterjee revealed that he was offered Sooraj Barjatya's Maine Pyar Kiya which he could not do due to his prior commitments in Bangla cinema.
One doesn't know during which point of time in the planning of Maine Pyar Kiya, Sooraj Barjatya actually thought of casting Prosenjit. But the fact is, the actor was locked in to play the lead in Maine Pyar Kiya before Salman Khan was Faraaz Khan.
Son of a small-time actor Yusuf Khan (he was the villain Zabisco in Manmohan Desai's Amar Akbar Anthony) Faraaz was chosen by Sooraj out of 50-55 shortlisters including Vindoo Dara Singh and Deepak Tijori.
Faraaz's clothes, dialogues and scenes for Maine Pyar Kiya were all ready when suddenly he fell ill just days before the film was to commence shooting.
Sooraj had no choice but to replace Faraaz at the eleventh hour with Salman. Faraaz went on to be launched by Vikram Bhatt in Fareb. It ruined his prospects. After struggling with ill-conceived roles in a sporadic projects (in Rani Mukerji's debut film Mehndi, Faraaz played her villainous husband) Faraaz's movie career fizzled out.
In November 2020 when Faraaz passed away at age 50, he did not have the resources to pay his medical bills.
